The 2025 Nautique WWA National Championships presented by GM Marine was the largest towed watersports event of the year, showcasing six disciplines for both amateurs and professionals: Wakeboard, Wakeskate, Surf, Skim, Foil, and Foil-Strapped. This event marked the third stop in both the 2025 Nautique Wake Series, which has four stops, and the 2025 Nautique Wakesurf Series, consisting of five stops, intensifying the competition as participants vied for vital series ranking points.

Held against the picturesque Highline Lake State Park in Grand Junction, Colorado, the celebrated Super Air Nautique G23 and G23 Paragon towed 303 athletes, aged 7 to 63, towards their pursuit of National Titles.

Benefiting from the deep water and optimal conditions, the Super Air Nautique G23 generated flawless wakes in the wakeboard divisions, resulting in groundbreaking performances. Team Nautique’s Zahra Kell and Cory Teunissen delivered outstanding routines to secure second and third places in the Pro Women and Pro Men Wakeboard categories, respectively. Zahra now leads the women’s standings in the 2025 Nautique Wake Series with 170 points, with Cory following closely in the men’s rankings with 170 points, trailing series leader Nic Rapa, who has 190 points.

In the Pro Women Surf and Skim categories, the unending waves of the Super Air Nautique G23 Paragon facilitated impressive finishes by Team Nautique’s Jodi Grassman and Bailey Dunn. Jodi secured the Nationals title in Pro Women Surf while Bailey claimed third, and Jodi earned third in the Pro Women Skim division. Consequently, Bailey now leads the 2025 Nautique Surf Series in both Pro Women Skim and Surf with 300 and 335 points, respectively, with Jodi close behind with 260 points in both rankings.

Team Nautique members Noah Flegel and Joey Harris also emerged as National champions, with Noah triumphing in both Pro Men Foil divisions and Joey achieving first place in Pro Men Surf. Noah also earned a podium finish in Pro Men Surf with second place. These accomplishments position Noah as the series leader in all four surf style categories, holding 200 points in Pro Men Surf, 190 in Pro Men Skim, and 100 in both Pro Men Foil and Foil-Strapped. Joey Harris ranks third overall in Pro Men Surf with 90 points, and fellow Team Nautique competitors John Akerman and Drew Drennan are among the top contenders, with John ranking third in Pro Men Skim and Drew third in Pro Men Foil.

“The level of talent at this year’s Nautique Nationals was truly inspiring,” stated Nautique President, Greg Meloon. “With series titles at stake and athletes giving it their all, this stop exemplified why the Nautique Wake and Wakesurf Series are the zenith of our sport. We are privileged to support events that advance progression and unite the global towed watersports community.”

MasterCraft Boat Company, the world’s best-selling towboat brand, today reinforced its commitment to protecting waterways and preserving access for generations to come. With waterway restrictions and local ordinances increasing nationwide, MasterCraft is taking an industry-leading stance to ensure that education, advocacy, and shared responsibility – not sweeping regulation – remain the solutions to these challenges.

“Boating isn’t just a passion – it’s an economic driver that supports thousands of jobs and generates billions of dollars for local economies,” said Brad Nelson, CEO of MasterCraft Boat Holdings. “We take these concerns seriously and are committed to being part of the solution by working with communities, educating boaters, and investing in innovation to ensure safe, responsible enjoyment of our waterways.”

As a proud supporter of the Water Sports Industry Association (WSIA) and its Wake Responsibly campaign, MasterCraft endorses three essential principles:

 1. Maintain 200 feet of distance from shore, docks, and other boats and in at least 10 feet of water
 2. Keep music at a respectful level
 3. Minimize repetitive passes in the same area

“These guidelines aren’t just rules – they’re about courtesy, coexistence, and protecting the sport we all love,” said Krista Schipner, Vice President of Marketing for MasterCraft. “We expect our athletes, dealers, ambassadors, and customers to lead by example so that everyone – boaters, anglers, and shoreline residents alike – feels respected. Together, we can ensure these waterways remain accessible for generations.”

In support of the Wake Responsibly campaign, MasterCraft is implementing the following:

 • Equipping dealer network with WSIA advocacy resources to educate local boaters
 • Embedding Wake Responsibly principles across all communication channels
 • Partnering with WSIA on state-level advocacy and supporting scientific research to counter misinformation with facts
 • Developing consumer-facing education materials for social and in-store use
 • Hosting on-water events to demonstrate responsible boating behaviors

MasterCraft is continuously investing in innovations and programs that give boaters the tools to operate responsibly and is actively listening to concerns to inform future solutions.

Waterway restrictions and access challenges are growing, often fueled by misconceptions about wake boats and their environmental impact.

Studies from leading wake experts validate that a wakesurfing boat passing a section of shoreline every nine minutes is less damaging than naturally occurring waves from a 10-mph wind with one mile of fetch. Further, boat wakes and waves from cruising boats, which are not the focus of legislation, dissipate more slowly and lack the initial drop in size associated with wakeboard and wakesurf wakes and waves.

“Our mission is simple: to build memories, not barriers,” added Schipner. “We are committed to preserving access while ensuring safety, sustainability, and shared responsibility on every lake and shoreline we touch.”

Centurion Boats: 50 Years of Innovation and Excellence https://www.wakeboardingmag.com/sponsored-post/centurion-boats-50-years-of-innovation-and-excellence/ Tue, 05 Aug 2025 19:06:00 +0000 https://www.wakeboardingmag.com/?p=60175 As Centurion Boats celebrates its 50th anniversary, it’s not crossing a finish line—it’s charging into a new era of industry dominance.

The post Centurion Boats: 50 Years of Innovation and Excellence appeared first on Wakeboarding Mag.

]]>
Rick Lee launched Centurion Boats with a clear vision and a passion for high performance. The company name, chosen from a list, quickly proved to be the perfect fit—embodying the grit, power, and warrior spirit that would come to define the brand.

Driven by innovation and an unrelenting pursuit of excellence, Centurion Boats has since become a leader in the wake surfing world. As the brand celebrates its 50th anniversary, it’s not crossing a finish line—it’s charging into a new era of industry dominance.

Centurion 50: Foundation

Centurion Boats was born out of love—and a little bit of pressure. Founder Rick Lee launched the company in an effort to win over his girlfriend’s father and provide the kind of lifestyle Pamela was used to. Lacking a background in sales but fueled by adrenaline and ambition, Rick knew there was only one thing he wanted to sell: boats.

What began as a personal mission quickly turned into something bigger. His vision and innovation soon outpaced his sales skills, and Centurion Boats took on a life of its own.

Fifty years later, the love story that started it all is still going strong—continuing to inspire a new generation of Centurion boats.

Centurion 50: Innovation

Visionary product innovation has always been the hallmark of Centurion Boats. Shane Stillman and his Product Development Team have carried forward founder Rick Lee’s relentless pursuit of improvement.

In 2016, Centurion took a bold step forward, departing from previous designs to introduce a model line optimized for both rough water ride and superior surf waves. But the true game-changer was the debut of the revolutionary Opti-V Hull—an innovation that produced the Worlds best waves, wake and ride.

Even after 50 years, Centurion remains focused on what’s next—always looking beyond the horizon.

Centurion 50: People

The Centurion Boats community—centered around its headquarters in Merced, California—is grounded in the values that set the company apart. It’s made up of passionate individuals who live and breathe innovation and watersports.

They believe that culture drives performance, and they work every day to prove it—through their craft, their commitment, and every Centurion boat that leaves the line.

Centurion 50: Competition

With demanding 10- to 12-hour days and the constant need to haul wake surfers and equipment, competitions are the ultimate proving ground for any wake boat. And it’s in these high-stakes environments that Centurion Boats truly stand apart.

Ken Scribner, a world championship driver, emphasizes the value of competition feedback in the development process. “Sharing what drivers feel, see, and experience during events—and having the team actually listen—makes Centurion boats better,” he says.

Centurion entered the competitive wake surfing scene in 1996 and has been accelerating its progress ever since. According to Amy Mauzy, Vice President of Marketing and Brand Development, “The buy-in from dedicated wake sports enthusiasts has pushed Centurion to become the world’s best wake boat.”

Scribner adds that it’s competition exposure that gives the brand an edge: “The wake surfing series brings us into a whole new realm of visibility that we simply don’t get through traditional marketing.”

Centurion 50: Giving Back

Waves of Positive Change can begin at any moment and take many forms. Often, they start quietly—like a single drop of water on a still lake, creating ripples that grow into something great.

As Daniel Indelicato, President of Centurion & Supreme Boats, puts it: “We’re here for a bigger purpose now. It’s not just about building boats—it’s about impacting lives.”

At Centurion Boats, giving back isn’t just a mission. It’s the heartbeat of everything they do.

Getting ready to wakeboard safely
The U.S. Coast Guard’s 2024 Recreational Boating Statistics Report records the fewest boating fatalities since the Service began collecting statistics more than 50 years ago. Garrett Cortese

The U.S. Coast Guard recently released the 2024 Recreational Boating Statistics Report. It showed the fewest U.S. fatalities in more than 50 years.

Still, the report contains some disturbing underlying statistics.

Stand-up paddleboarding saw a double-digit increase in fatalities (+164%), jumping from 11 deaths in 2023 to 29 deaths in 2024.

Paddlesports in general remained inordinately high, contributing nearly 30% of all known vessel type fatalities (down from 33% in 2023). Cabin motorboats reported an 80% increase, increasing from 20 deaths in 2023 to 36 deaths in 2024.

Alcohol continued to be the leading known contributing factor in fatal boating accidents in 2024, accounting for 92 deaths, or 20% of total fatalities. Deaths occurred predominantly on vessels operated by individuals who had not received boating safety instruction, accounting for roughly 70% of fatalities. Drowning accounted for three-quarters of deaths, with 87% of victims not wearing life jackets.

The Watersports Foundation (WSF) began its media outreach campaigns in 2011. Since then, boating fatalities, as compared to the 2024 report, are down 26.6% representing 202 fewer boating deaths.

The post Top 10 Lakes in US appeared first on Wakeboarding Mag.

USA Today recently published its Top Ten Lakes in the US. We decided to have a little fun and ask AI (in this case, Symbolic.ai) to list the top ten lakes in the US for boating. Here are the results. To start off, here’s an image with the USA Today list.

USA Today top lakes in the United States
USA Today has compiled a list of the Top Ten Lakes in the US. Courtesy USA Today

For the record, we’ve been on all of these lakes. Our favorite would have to be Lake Powell, which spans both Arizona and Utah, if for no other reason than it’s stunning, otherworldly (especially if you are not from the desert) beauty.

Our sentimental favorite? Lake Wawasee, Indiana, where we host an annual photo shoot. Wawasee combines small-town charm; a variety of food venues, from a custard stand to a French restaurant, a sense of community, and a lake itself that’s not too big and not too small.

Lake Wawasee sunrise
Lake Wawasee is a favorite lake of the author…and many of those who have boated there! Kevin Falvey

Now, compare the USA Today versus AI lake lists. Go!

Lake Havasu (Arizona and California)

Lake Havasu, nestled on the Arizona-California border, is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise. Known for its exceptional bass fishing, the reservoir was also prominent for hosting white sturgeon in the past. Summer months transform the lake into a hub for boating and watersports, drawing crowds who revel in the expansive waters and nearby desert beauty.

Lake Champlain (New York and Vermont)

Straddling the New York-Vermont border, Lake Champlain is a blend of urban adventure and serene nature. While its shores offer a vibrant scene of dining in Burlington, the lake also invites visitors to sail and fish for bass amidst its peaceful parks and islands.

Lake George (New York)

Tucked at the southern rim of New York’s Adirondacks, Lake George has mesmerized visitors for over a century with its mesmerizing vistas and varied water activities. From historic Millionaires’ Row to parasailing adventures and serene beach days, its attractions are as plentiful as they are diverse.

Lake Tahoe (California and Nevada)

As the largest alpine lake in North America, Lake Tahoe captivates with its crystalline waters set against the majestic Sierra Nevada mountains. It’s a hotspot for summer events such as the Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance of classic wooden boats, adding a touch of elegance to its natural beauty.

Crater Lake (Oregon)

Crater Lake amazes with its jaw-dropping clarity and vibrant blue waters, unparalleled in their pristine conditions. Formed in a massive volcanic caldera, its tranquil depths welcome those in search of nature’s untouched silence.

Torch Lake (Michigan)

Famed for its Caribbean-like turquoise waters, Torch Lake stands as a testament to Michigan’s natural beauty. Its extensive recreation opportunities, combined with scenic charm, make it a favorite destination for those seeking both adventure and relaxation.

Lake Erie (Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York)

Lake Erie, the most shallow of the Great Lakes, is celebrated for its robust fishing scene, teeming with walleye and perch. Its shores, lined with vibrant cities, offer more than enough to satisfy both anglers and adventurers.

Flathead Lake (Montana)

Recognized as one of the cleanest lakes, Flathead Lake supports a diverse range of fish species. With its sparkling waters and summer sports activities, it presents an idyllic setting for outdoor enjoyment.

Lake Michigan

Encircled by the bustling cities of Chicago, Milwaukee, and the secluded beauty of Door County, Lake Michigan’s expansive surface provides ample opportunities for sailing enthusiasts and those drawn to water-based escapades.

A haven for boaters, the Lake of the Ozarks combines lively watersports with a vibrant social scene, drawing those eager to experience its renowned boating culture.
