Director General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Dr Temitope Ilori has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to improving access to healthcare for all women, regardless of their HIV status.
Ilori made this commitment in a statement on Saturday in Abuja, marking the 2025 International Women’s Day (IWD), themed “Accelerate Action.”
“We don’t just celebrate you. We stand with you. We fight with you. We commit to a future where every woman, regardless of her HIV status, has access to healthcare, dignity, and the respect she deserves.
“Your voice matters. Your life matters. And your power is unstoppable,” Ilori added.
The D-G acknowledged the strength, resilience, and leadership of women living with HIV, encouraging them to continue inspiring others by breaking down barriers and combating the stigma associated with their status.
“You face not only the virus but also stigma, discrimination, and systemic barriers, yet you continue to rise, fight, and demand your rightful place in this world,” she said.
“You are mothers, daughters, sisters, leaders, advocates, and warriors.
“You refuse to be silenced. You refuse to be defined by HIV.
“You are breaking down barriers, shattering stigma, and changing lives, not just your own, but those of countless others who look to you for hope and inspiration,” Ilori emphasised.
International Women’s Day, celebrated globally on March 8, focuses on achieving gender equality and empowering women.(NAN)
